Put away your stack of NCLEX review books. The day of your test has finally arrived. Its normal to be nervous so don't allow that to deter you from the path. A case of the nervous nellies is good..it keeps you sharp, so expect to be nervous.
Eat a good breakfast even if your stomach is doing flip-flops. The theory behind this is that you don't want all of your energy expended and blood flow going to your stomach while taking the test. The energy and blood flow need to be going to your brain.
On your way to the test center listen to music. What kind of radio station you tune into depends on what you need at the moment. If you need to calm your anxiety then smooth jazz or classic rock and roll are the way to go. Need to pump it up a bit then keep it on the Top 40 station in your area and be sure to switch the dial if it gets too mellow for you. Keep it light, no tear jerking songs about losing your girlfriend/boyfriend, stay away from the heavy metal that makes you angry. Keep it happy and fun as its a great stress reliever to sing at the top of your lungs, keep the beat on the steering wheel and do a little chair dancing. My suggestion is Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, its got it all. Rock, opera, jazz, classical and the impeccable voice of Freddy Mercury, whats not to love! Silence in the car on the way to the test center will only elevate your anxiety.
Bring a sweater or jacket to the testing center with you. They keep it pretty cool in the testing center and again, you don't want all your energy expended in shivering to keep you warm.
Bring your acceptable ID to the test center as well as your ATT (authorization to test). Acceptable forms of ID should be listed on your states BON website as well as the Pearson Vue website.
You are allowed breaks during the test. Take them..walk outside, use the restroom, get a drink or a snack but just remember to take them. Walking away for a little bit helps you to refocus.
Eat a little bit of sugar before the test. Sugar is brain food. I always had a tootsie pop before a test, it became a ritual for me.
Good luck and remember to breathe.
